The third beer from Jolly Pumpkin that I’m reviewing is a Belgian Strong Ale at 8% ABV, aged on Oak barrels.
Hazy lemony/light orange color with small head. It almost looks like an IPA.
Aroma
Sour aroma with hints of wood, green apples and some citrusy notes as well. Quite fruity.
Flavor
Lightly sour up front with some delicions fruity aromas and spicy notes coming through. I’m also getting some banana notes.
This beer is aged in oak barrels and that comes through nicely in the flavor.
The mouth feel on this beer is pretty smooth with its mellow carbonation.
Finish
Slightly boozy finish up front that transforms into a lovely mix of apples, oranges and some hints from the oak after a while.
Rating
This is a really good Belgian Strong Ale. Very well balanced and exciting profile. Score: 4.7/5.
